XXL (Xiu Xiu + Larsen) - Puff O'Gigio 2018 г.
Jamie Stewart's Xiu Xiu and Italian experimental band Larsen have resurrected their collaborative project called XXL, and have revealed they'll be releasing an album called Puff O'Gigio on December 7th via Bad Paintings.
If you're wondering what the heck Puff O'Gigio is, then let us inform you: it's genetically modified mythological creature that sits somewhere between a Smurf and Topo Gigio. Of course. The album was written and recorded over one week, and the resulting work is set to display a broad range of sounds that are as colourful, vibrant and mystical as the titular Puff O'Gigio. It is said to touch on themes of wild animals, dub echoes, feminist art(ists), alternative ecosystems and assorted fetishes.
The first track to be shared from the album is 'Queen of Koalas', which is a spacey and delicately clanging track bedded in wondrously droning synths - so not necessarily what comes to mind when envisioning the titular Queen. However, embedded within the murky depths of 'Queen of Koalas' are plenty of unusual sounds and psychedelic character. The only way to truly understand is by listening to the song below.
